I am honored to introduce myself to you
I’m a proud Wake County native that attended all public schools and a parent of a son who attended all public schools in Wake County. I was elected to the Wake County Board of Education for a four-year term in 2009. I advocated to help families with reassignment concerns, securing equitable math placements, and programming options that met the needs of students. With over 30 years of experience as an educator, I’ve held various positions including my most recent working for the NC Department of Public Instruction as a federal program administrator for afterschool programs helping low income families. This position allowed me to collaborate with all 115 NC school districts, as well as many faith-based community-based, non-profit, and for-profit organizations. In addition, I was the Character Education Consultant for the state while working at Public Instruction.
My education journey brought me to the teaching and counseling pathways at the start of my career. I taught middle and high school with the Wake County Public School System and later, after obtaining my master’s degree, became a K-12 counselor before transitioning to Public Instruction. I enjoyed this experience so much, I ended up staying with WCPSS for over 20 years.
There’s more, I have roots in District 1!
I began teaching language arts and social studies at the Wake Forest Middle School when the school was located on the Dubois Campus. My Mom, grandparents, and great grandparents lived in the Wake Forest/Rolesville area. My Dad graduated from the original Knightdale HS and lived with his parents on a farm in Zebulon before moving to Wendell and later to Knightdale.
It will be my pleasure to serve again on the board for District 1 and this great county. I look forward to working with families, school staff and administrators, businesses, and community leaders and ask for your vote November 3rd.
